The Beautiful Gate

The gate was called beautiful; it was a place of hope, activity and possibilities An entrance into the temple of God and into God’s blessing. But the word literally means, the most perfect moment of time. ” And on the same day Peter and John went up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.” Acts 3.1 So it was not beautiful in appearance but beautiful in opportunity. A beautiful moment. We would say today perfect timing.
Of course, it was a beautiful moment for the lame man. Whenever you see a “certain man”, in the Bible you can know it’s a story that we can learn from; we could be that certain man. He was lame from his mother’s womb. We are all lame from our mother’s womb and this story is a metaphor of all of us; lame but looking for an answer.
We are crippled; we find we can’t walk right. We try to walk right and live right but we end up stumbling and falling. No matter how hard we try, we all seem to be crippled in life. So we look at everybody else, wondering what can help us stand up and begin to live the good life. We look at people thinking, “Who can give is a break. Who could open the gate to the beautiful life? Is it our boss, is it our teacher, or maybe some rich person or job opportunity. More dollars each week. A new girlfriend or may be just more beer.
But finally we find that nobody has anything that is able to help us permanently. What we really need is to find somebody that says I don’t have what you’re looking for, but I do have what you need. Peter said “Silver and Gold I do not have, but such as I have, I give you. In the name of Jesus rise up and walk.
Friends, Somebody gave us “something” we weren’t looking for and we found it was the answer to our need. We knew we needed “something” but we didn’t know what it was, or how it could be satisfied. Thank you Jesus.
