In a human family the children get their identity and know where they belong by seeing the fathers face and mother face. They are their centre! Though Jesus calls his followers sheep, disciples, servants and friends though the gospel of John, in John 20 after the resurrection He calls them brothers. They were now the children of God. Children feel belonging, love and acceptance before they have done anything!
When Jesus heard “This is my beloved Son in whom I’m well pleased,” He hadn’t done anything “great” yet.
We gain identity from our fathers smiling face and for that reason we are told to come boldly to the throne of grace to find mercy and grace to help from our Father. Heb 4.11.
Do you know what mercy looks like? The smile on Jesus face as we come to Him! When a child comes to their father for help, maybe to fix their hurt foot, they are received with mercy and a smile of love. Its grace and mercy to help!
A child can come boldly. I have children. I have friends, I have disciples not many servants and a cat. Who get my attention when there’s trouble? Who can walk into my bedroom any time they want? Only my children. Children belongs in my house; everyone else knocks. Who is my inheritance going to? A disciple, a friend my cat? No, my children.
Friend, your Father is smiling and waiting you for you to come in.
