The Eagle

The Story told of a farmer who found an eagles egg in the mountains. He brought it back and put it under a sitting hen on his farm. When the eagle grew up it naturally thought that it was a chicken and the mother hen raised it as its own. The mighty eagle learnt to cluck and scratch in the dirt for seeds and worms, flapping its wings furiously, in a cloud of dust and feathers. One year later, the eagle-who-thought-he-was-a-chicken happened to look up at the sky. High overhead, soaring majestically and effortlessly on the thermals with scarcely a single beat of its powerful golden wings, was an eagle! “What’s that?” cried the eagle in awe. “It’s magnificent! So much power and grace! It’s beautiful!” “That’s an eagle,” replied a nearby chicken, “That’s the King of the Birds. It’s a bird of the air… not for the likes of us. We’re only chickens, we’re birds of the earth”. With that, they all cast their eyes downwards once more and continued digging in the dirt One day the eagle flew over the coop and saw the female eagle in the chicken run, so he swooped down scaring all the chickens into the hen house. But he cut the female eagle off and said what an earth are you doing living in this mess you are an eagle! You should be soaring, living free but the eagle thought the predator was trying to trick her. In a moment of inattention she rushed inside the chicken house happy tell her “sisters and brothers” how the silly eagle tried to get her to think she was an eagle too and leave the chicken coop. And so it was that the eagle lived and died a chicken… because that’s all it believed itself to be.

If you see yourself as a chicken you will never soar as an eagle. How you see yourselves is more important than the facts. The problem with that is that if the way you see yourself doesn’t go to a whole new level we won’t rise up to any place different. We can’t go up while thinking down. We can’t live in power while thinking weakness. The eagle represents the power of the Holy Spirits work in believers. ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Exo 19:4 God meant that He brought them to Himself by His own mighty power. In fact just about everything heavenly has wings: Cherubim has 2, the living creatures have 4 wings and the Seraphim’s, 6. God gives wings to creatures to enable them to be lifted above the earth. To soar in heavenly places. Wings symbolise the Holy Spirit! And we are to be like the eagle who mount up in to heavenly places and dwells in the high places. But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isa 40:31

Chickens nest low but eagles build high where they can’t be attacked. “Does the eagle soar at your command and build his nest on high? 28] He dwells on a cliff and stays there at night; a rocky crag is his stronghold. Job 39:27-28. They build a nest that can only be reached by flying. Too many of us are building our life in the chicken coop. It is way too low. If the world you’re building to live in, is easily violated and you find yourself having to fight of things constantly from your life. It may be because you built your nest too low. It is filled with chickens and stuff that chickens make. Get above the world.

The early church in Acts went from the upper room on eagles wings! Filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. It is naturally true that eagles hate snakes, and in the book of Revelation, the end time Church is given great wings of the Spirit like an Eagle to be able to escape and overcome the power of the serpent.

Friend, God want us to be an eagle Christian! We better rise up out of the chicken coop of natural living and make our dwelling in high places. Let’s begin to use our wings!
