The Yoke is Easy

Jesus walked in Capernaum near his home town and from where a number of his disciples had come from. As he saw their struggle He cried out to the towns people.  Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.   Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Mat 11:28-29 Come to Me and take My yoke upon you- come and get rid of your heavy burdens and harsh yoke. The Yoke was first a device that allowed two animals to share the work load. Often an experienced animal was put with a younger animal to teach him the way to work. Later on, it became the interpretation of the law that was taught by a rabbi so you “bore his yoke.”  It was often hard to bear and burdensome as people were constantly made aware of their shortcomings and their inadequacy to perform as they should. On the other hand the Yoke of Jesus was the Truth as he taught it: Knowing the Father, hearing Father and to living as a son.   Jesus our older brother, is ready to teach the younger brother’s, how to labour with the yoke of son ship and bear the burdens of the Father.  Grace invites us into this yoke to share His privilege, mission and His strength by co-labouring with Him instead of struggling with heavy burdens of the law, without the strength nor assistance to comply. To come to Jesus is to come to Grace and find that Grace make the burdens light. The Father and Jesus do have a burden – the responsibility of Gods people to love God and others seems great, and without relationship with Jesus it is an impossible and heavy burden – but it seems light if you’re in the yoke with Jesus.  He now He is the one doing the work; Jesus and believers are one in the yoke.  He’s our righteousness, our perfect connection to the Father and so he becomes our director and our strength for the task. Today enjoy the yoke of son ship in relationship with Jesus. Learn of Him and He will show you how to hear the Father and how to obey. As Jesus did – we only have to do what the Father tells us to do. Friend, the yoke will fit you (according to your gifts and passions), and it will be easy as Jesus does His work of love through us.
