On the Shelf

The old potter looks at his completed pot and feels some satisfaction knowing that it will be put to a good use. He also knows that it cannot be used just yet and puts it aside to dry out on a shelf in a dark cupboard so it doesn’t dry out too fast.

Many of us have felt like that; just when it seemed we were ready. We have been trained and been faithful every day, for years.  We may feel we are ready for promotion in the kingdom but are overlooked. But God is drying us out, allowing us to harden up, so we are able to take some knocks and not lose shape.

When we are placed on His shelf, we are being hidden away and the reason that God does it is to enable us to realize something important for every great vessel and that is to know where our true Life is.  We find that our true life is also hidden away with Christ.

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Col 3:3-4.

Our life is not in ministry or a position, or being popular.  It is good to be useful and to be serving in the house of God but if you don’t work out where your “Life” is you may get disillusioned and burn out.

Friend, I’ve seen numbers of people whose desire to serve is stronger that their desire to spend time with Jesus.  If they don’t know where their life is hidden and find their life in Christ, they often drop out. If they go to another church looking for a church that makes them feel complete, they still won’t find what they are looking for, because they are looking for Life in all the wrong places.
