Focused Future

The problem with the past is that it is exactly that; the past.

“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert” (Isa 43:18-19).

If something has happened it’s already just a  memory.  Some people and some companies are bound to the success of the past and it limits them. It may be a great memory but it will fade fast. You can’t change memories whether they are good or bad and even if you sit all day at the feet of a memorial stone, it can’t help you now.  If you live in the past, you will only ever be what you were; yesterday’s success, a drunk, hopeless or just lost. While we can’t undo the sad and painful events of our life, God can totally remove the guilt and shame of every mistake we have made.   God is also able to change the meaning of the past.  He can’t change what happened but He re-interprets it, changing the impact of what happened and uses it for our good.

The past is set but the future is flexible. Your unfulfilled dreams will come to pass in the future. New things from God can only spring forth today or tomorrow and the only place He promises to make a road in the wilderness is in your future. The place you can make things different and the only place you can meet with God is in the future starting right now.  But if God can use a difficult past to bring us the place where we were ready for Him and the bright future He is planning for us, it is worth any price.

Friend, focus on the future and you’ll find that He is there and you’ll find yourself there too.
