When Christopher Columbus was planning his voyage of discovery to the Indies, he could not afford to buy the boats, hire the men or stock the ship with supplies. He appealed to Ferdinand the King and Isabella the Queen of Spain, who granted his request.
Are you faced with something difficult even impossible? If your voyage of destiny has Royal assent, it will surely have Royal help. Jesus said “And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it. Luke 14:27-28). He went on to say “Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? (Luke 14:31)
The answer is no he can’t. Jesus meant for us to realise when we set out to follow Him as disciples, we will encounter challenges far above our own ability to meet. Jesus calls us to live an impossible life. We are to be impossibly kind, impossibly forgiving and impossibly faithful and powerful. But all things are possible with Christ within us.
We are to look at the cost and say not that we can’t but that we can’t without God. Nothing God plans for us to do in our Christian life can be done without divine help whether in marriage, ministry or mission. Marriages are designed not to work at all well, apart from the Holy Spirit empowering both people’s lives.
This verse means that if we only look at the conflict in the earthly realm we’ll always be short but if we look to Gods realm there is always abundance. God doesn’t lack. Gold is just road material. The way we live is always a reflection of the world we are most aware of. We are not to count the cost and stop short – rather know that His vision and His provision come from the same willing supernatural Source. As they say “if God orders the dinner, He’ll pay the bill”.
Friends, we can be confident that He will provide for everything He has commissioned but if we aren’t asking our Royal father for His resources and help, we won’t discover what is possible in our lives. Father wants us to find out that all things are possible with God.
